Champions of the Future 2025 – Round 2: Portimão Preview

Champions of the Future 2025 – Round 2: Portimão Preview

Following the opening round just a few weeks ago in Campillos, the Champions of the Future Euro Series heads into its second round of the season, taking place in Portimão from April 23rd to 26th. Set in the stunning coastal region of the Algarve, the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve will host the next chapter of this competitive championship. Known for its high-speed layout and dramatic elevation changes, the 1,532-meter circuit promises more excitement and top-tier racing.

What to Watch for in Portimão:

As the talented grid prepares for the weekend ahead, Portimão is shaping up to be a key battleground in the evolving championship storylines. With standout performances across the board in Round 1, both categories are set for another fiercely competitive outing.

OK – The Pace Setters Return:

Christian Costoya (Parolin Motorsport) arrives in Portimão as the man to beat. The Spaniard delivered a statement performance: pole position, four heat wins, a Super Heat victory, and a dominant drive in the Final race. Only Viktor Gustafsson (CRG Racing Team) managed to get the better of him once—but the rest of the field is closing in.

Kenzo Craigie (Prema Racing) will be one to watch after charging from fifth to second in the Final, while Iacopo Martinese (KR Motorsport), Joe Turney (KR Motorsport), and Dries Van Langendonck (Forza Racing) also showed race-winning potential. Eloi Martinez’s (DPK Racing) storming drive from 27th to 8th turned heads, and Frenchman Louis Cochet (Sodikart) showed blistering pace with the fastest lap.

OK-Junior – Momentum vs. Challenge:

Ilie Tristan Crisan (Tony Kart Racing Team) heads to Portugal with serious momentum after a brilliant drive to victory in Valencia, where he controlled the Final and clocked the fastest lap. But expect strong resistance from Dean Hoogendoorn (AKM Motorsport) and William Calleja (Parolin Motorsport), who both had the speed to win.

Henry Domain (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) will be looking for redemption after running second in the Final before slipping to fourth, while Drew and Devin Walz (KR Motorsport) are proving to be a powerful sibling duo for KR Motorsport. Also worth keeping an eye on: Noah Baglin (Tony Kart Racing Team), who climbed from 46th in Qualifying to a top-eight finish, and Bruno Blanco (DPK Racing), eager to convert early pace into results.

Weather Forecast:

The weekend is expected to be sunny, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 26°C. But as any seasoned petrolhead knows—weather in Portimão can turn in an instant. Expect the unexpected!
